History of the Waukon–

The Waukon & Mississippi Railroad was a narrow-gauge line built to connect Waukon, Iowa with the Milwaukee Road at Waukon Junction on the Mississippi River Forgotten Railways, Roads & Places. Construction began in the late 1870s after years of planning, overcoming the challenge of steep, rough terrain — including a climb of over 600 feet — which made it one of the steepest routes along the Iowa side of the river Forgotten Railways, Roads & Places.
